My life has been turned upside-down and inside-out in more ways than I can count over the last year. In one of those ways, I had not so much given up crafting, as just didn't have the creative juices to do anything. I moved to northeastern Pennsylvania in June and until yesterday had not set foot into a craft store. There's just something wrong with that.
Late last week Liam came home with a project for school. Ancestor Doll. For those of you lucky enough not not know what that is, I'll expain. The kids are given a bunch of questions to ask their parents, grandparents, etc. about their ancestors and then using a semi-body shaped form of paper they have to dress them in something appropriate for where their ancestors came from. Not actually a bad project ... we should all know where we came from ... the issue is actually getting the items to figure out how to MAKE the doll.
Hence my trip to Michael's yesterday. Liam opted to go with the Russian link of our family and wanted to make his ancestor in cold weather clothes. We've all seen the pictures of old Russian gentlemen wrapped up in their winter coats and hats and I thought hey, that won't be so bad. Felt for the coat, boots and gloves, fur for the hat. Except for some bizarre reason Michael's no longer carries fake fur. Yep, I was shocked as well. But what really got me is in looking around Michael's I realized just how much I miss crafting. And being creative. So in addtion to the felt I bought a couple of cute holiday baskets and some yarn. I think this will make a great looking hat, don't you?
Anyway, on with my story ... so no fake fur at Michael's but luckily there's an ACMoore close and they happened to have some brown fur that will work perfectly (oh and tacky glue ... almost forgot that). Here's what Liam and I came up with last night. Don't you think he looks good? :)
Adrienne drew the eyes in (I don't take credit for that!). Now hopefully his teacher will like him as well as we do. As for the yarn I think since it's not even supposed to be above freezing this weekend a good way to spend it might be under the blankets on the couch watching movies and knitting. Hopefuly I'll have a hat to share by the beginning of next week.
Feels good to find my creativity again.

I love the doll. Haven't had to make one since Ian was that age. Glad you're back to crafting can't wait to see the hat. Say Warm!
