I knew this week for my Presto Pasta Nights post I wanted to do something with a tomato meat sauce. In preparation, I scoured the web for a bolognese sauce recipe - found one that sounded good yet easy - bought the stuff for it - and then the night came to make it I couldn't find where I had bookmarked it. You might find that amusing (I do now, but didn't then), but it actually ended up turning out okay. (Ha! Take that my failing memory!)
From what I understand, most bolognese sauce recipes use cream or milk toward the end. That's why I'm not calling this a bolognese sauce. I'm not sure what to call it, so "something" wins out. We all really enjoyed it, though - it was meaty and hearty - with a hint of the red wine (I used Merlot). Served with a salad and garlic bread, simple and satisfying.
Spaghetti Something
First, brown
- 1 pound ground beef (I used 93% lean)
in a medium saucepan. Once it's brown, add in:
- 1 small sweet onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
and cook until the vegetables are tender but not browned. Add in:
- 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes
- 6 ounces red wine
- 6 ounce can of tomato paste
- 3/4 cup water
- pinch of salt
Cook all this for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally so the sauce doesn't burn. After the 20 minutes start some water on to boil your spaghetti. That'll give the sauce about 40 minutes or so to cook while your spaghetti is cooking. Serve the sauce over spaghetti (or any pasta really) and sprinkle with some grated Parmesan or Romano cheese.
This week's Presto Pasta Nights is hosted by HoneyB over at The Life & Loves of Grumpy's Honeybunch. Head over there on Friday to see the roundup of wonderful pasta dishes. They're sure to give you some great ideas!

I have a couple of camera suggestions that I will email you. They aren't elaborate but the suggestions came to me from a close photographer friend - I've yet to get my new one also because my laptop went kaput and had to replace that instead.
When I'm making "something" I usually call it "some kinda beef, pasta, chicken, whatever" dish. lol Grumpy gets worried when I do that because he doesn't know what to expect! I'm glad your spaghetti something turned out good!

Thanks so much, Shelby! I'm not looking for elaborate on camera suggestions - just something that won't make me want to throw it across the room when I go to put up a post. :)

I can sooooo relate to finding that perfect recipe on the web, bookmarking it and then never being able to find it again. Your version sounds fantastic. Thanks for sharing with Presto Pasta Night.
